MBALANGI, Cameroon

At least six people were killed and several others wounded when separatist fighters from Ambazonia attacked a bar in Mbalangi, in Cameroon’s Southwest Region, local sources said Monday.

The gunmen stormed the bar around 10 p.m. Sunday looking for a man known as “Sam,” a cocoa buyer. When they didn’t find him, he had reportedly fled moments earlier, they opened fire and set the bar ablaze. Two victims were burned to death.

Several wounded were taken to nearby health centers, a resident told Gazette Africa on phone. Security forces arrived later and fired shots into the air, but authorities have yet to issue an official statement.

The Southwest and Northwest Regions have been embroiled in a separatist conflict since 2017.
