Cameroon's opposition candidate, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to President Paul Biya's government.
He demands the release of all individuals detained following the contested October 12 presidential election.
The post-election period has been marked by significant violence and arrests. UN reports indicate at least 48 fatalities, while Cameroon's human rights commission has recorded over 1,200 arrests.
Tchiroma, who claims to have won the election, warned that citizens would take matters into their own hands if his demand is not met.
This ultimatum deepens the political crisis stemming from the poll that extended President Biya's long-standing rule, raising concerns about further instability.
