Cambodian authorities will end the visa exemption for all African nationals, including Ghanaians, on May 31, 2026.

Anyone still in the country without valid immigration documents after this deadline will face arrest, up to two years in prison, and fines of up to $8,000.

Government spokespeople and immigration officials have issued public warnings through local media and diplomatic channels, emphasizing that undocumented individuals will be dealt with severely. Deportation proceedings will be initiated following any arrest, with costs potentially borne by the individuals or their embassies.

Authorities have promised strict enforcement of the law starting June 1.

This policy change requires Africans currently in Cambodia to obtain a valid visa or leave the country before the deadline to avoid severe penalties. No extension has been announced.

Those affected are advised to regularize their status immediately or leave the country before the deadline.

The development is part of Cambodia's broader efforts to strengthen immigration controls and more rigorously manage the residency of foreigners.
