Pro-Biafra independence group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has vowed to take action after its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was sentenced to life in prison.
The group condemned the Nigerian judiciary, calling it a tool for suppressing the Biafran people's desire for freedom.
In a statement was issued by Mazi Chika Edoziem, the head of the group's Directorate of State (DOS), IPOB insists no evidence of terrorism exists against Kanu and points out that he was previously exonerated by the Court of Appeal. They believe the government should have respected that ruling to allow for peaceful dialogue on independence.
According to IPOB, the Nigerian government is pursuing a path that “amounts to genocide.”
We “shall in the coming days, weeks and months roll out actions,” said the separatist group.
