— KADUNA, NIGERIA
Jihadists have kidnapped an Anglican priest and his wife in southern Kaduna, while a separate attack last week claimed the lives of nine residents, including three young girls, in a neighboring district.
The latest incident unfolded early Tuesday morning in Nissi village, Chikun Local Government Area (LGA), when armed bandits stormed the home of Reverend Edwin Achi, an Anglican priest with the Church of Nigeria, abducting him and his wife, Sarah Achi.
A church member who spoke to Gazette Africa confirmed the raid, expressing frustration over the lack of media coverage.
Kaduna State has been a hotspot for banditry, with frequent raids on rural villages amid ongoing security challenges. Just two Thursdays ago, on October 16, another brutal assault struck Layin Danauta village in Birnin Gwari LGA, leaving nine dead and several injured.
Local sources identified the three minor victims as daughters of Alhaji Salisu Maiwada, a prominent community figure. The remaining fatalities included five married men and one young bachelor, all ambushed in a coordinated attack.
A survivor, Mr Abraham Isa, described chaos as gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, with survivors fleeing into nearby bushes. Several wounded individuals remain in critical condition at local hospitals, receiving care amid limited resources.
