The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist group pushing for the independence of Eastern Nigeria, has expanded its European footprint by opening a liaison office in Málaga, Spain, just four weeks after establishing its headquarters in Bremen, Germany.
The launch event was attended by key figures, including Mazi Chika Edoziem, head of IPOB’s Directorate of State, and Mrs. Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the group’s detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
This move comes amid ongoing tensions with Nigerian authorities, who continue to detain Mr. Kanu, for his advocacy for Biafran independence and a referendum.
Analysts believe the new European offices aim to coordinate diaspora efforts and amplify IPOB’s campaign for Biafran sovereignty on the global stage.
With formal structures now in major EU countries, IPOB is strengthening its international operations, despite its proscription in Nigeria and the government’s continued crackdown on its supporters.
