Mrs. Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has revealed what the detained socio-political activist told her.

In a message seen by REELS TIMES, Mrs Kanu, who has repeatedly condemned the imprisonment of her husband, also renewed the call for his release, revealing the discussion they had.

In the message published on Facebook September 25, 2023, the wife of the IPOB leader said: “Exactly 22 years, 1 week and 4days ago was the day you asked me what I want do in life. I told you I intend to run charity organisations to help people in every aspect of life but will focus mostly on their educational attainment. Then I asked you what you want in life.

“You said, 'I want to save my people'. It was not just what you said, it was how you said it.

“The unspoken conviction, the facial expression you had was of stern certainty which exhumed the pain and burden of our people. You also told me the reason you will not prefix Prince to your name after Papa is crowned King.
That was the moment we were shaped into this present.

“You were born to fight injustice and oppressions, you were born for this cause. I will reiterate it today "this circumstance is righteousness unto your path" and that, is what I hold unto.
You are the voice that speaks for the voiceless. The oceans, our ancestors, the sun, the moon, the stars, the wind, the trees, and the forests stood in your stead and shall continue to do so.”

She concluded by wishing Nnamdi Kanu, “Happy birthday to Ohamadike 1 of Biafra land. Iga adi! Ijela mana iga alota n'ike, n'ebube.”

Kanu, still detained in Nigeria since 2021 despite a court order for his release, faces criminal charges including treason, for demanding a referendum on an independent state known as Biafra.

He pleads 'not guilty' of the charges against him, which Court of Appeal had dismissed and ordered his release during the administration of former president Muhammadu Buhari.
