Jewish religion adherents are praying and sending messages of condolence to Israel amid terrorist attacks on the Jewish state by Islamic militants – Hamas and other Palestinian gunmen.
Mr. Okechukwu Agu, speaking at a synagogue in Nigeria's southeastern Abia state, called the attack on Israel an "act of terror," saying that "Igbo Jews stand with Israel at this critical time.”
Islamist militants believed to have formed an alliance with the feared terrorist group, ISIS, have launched a series of attacks in Israel. Israeli citizens were also taken hostage as local media confirmed the death toll stood at 700 people in Israel and nearly 500 in Gaza as of midday Monday.
Thousands of people on both sides were injured, according to a VOA report that cited the U.S. State Department as saying nine Americans were among those killed and other U.S. citizens were missing.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government announced on Monday a total blockade on Gaza as Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system continues to intercept rockets launched from the Gaza Strip.
“We pray for the State of Israel,” Ms. Nnenna Akaeze told Tori Pulse in Umuahia. “Israel will defeat its enemies, that is what we pray and believe,” she said.
In Enugu, capital of the defunct Republic of Biafra, adherents of Judaism have been organizing prayers for the State of Israel since Saturday October 7, 2023. The same is being done in other parts of the big Igbo territory in Nigeria.
