According to the activist who is also an author, the Biafran people still suffer in the hands of radical Islamists in Nigeria.
“The mainstream media is not reporting about it of course, so the only voice they got is us. I stand with them and their noble quest for freedom,” Naftali said in a Tweet.
He acknowledged that “around 2 million civilians died from starvation during the Biafra War waged by Nigeria in 1967.”
In a Tweet after the ceremony on May 30, the Israeli activist disclose that hat really touched his heart “is to see their joy and happiness. They never lose hope for a better future - and their way of honoring their heroes is by being happy.”
Hananaya had condemned what he called mistreatment of Biafrans by the Nigerian government, and called for a referendum which would allow the people to exit from Nigeria.
He had, in 2021, called for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu who is still being incarcerated in Nigeria for demanding a referendum on an independent state of Biafra.
