Local authorities and residents banished a married woman for having an extramarital affair while her husband was ill.
The incident happened at Iheakpu Obolo Afor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, southeast Nigeria.
According to reports, the woman was banished from the community after she was caught and confirmed that her husband had fallen ill due to her involvement in long-standing extramarital affairs.
“Here in our community, if a married woman sleeps with another man and comes home and cooks for her husband, the man gets sick and gradually dies," said a local who spoke to Tori Pulse on Saturday.
The local authorities (Chefs and Umunna) justified banishing the woman by saying that she committed sacrilege.
A local told Tori Pulse that the community made the decision to banish the woman after an investigation and "consulting the gods" to find out the cause of the man's mysterious illness.
“She's been doing it for a long time and she hasn't stopped despite being caught several times by people here in the community.” Her banishment is in accordance with the law and tradition of our community,” said Ahamfula Nkwo.
