Jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has formally terminated the services of his longtime personal lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and withdrawn all authority for him to represent him, his family, or the group.

In a letter dated July 22, 2026, from Sokoto Correctional Centre, the separatist leader confirmed a prior verbal dismissal and made it official in writing. He revoked any mandate Ejiofor held to act or speak for IPOB, citing the separatist group’s Code of Conduct which reserves such powers exclusively for the leader.

Mr. Kanu instructed the lawyer to immediately cease public statements, interviews, press releases, social media posts, and court appearances on their behalf, and to withdraw from all pending matters.

He also warned Barrister Ejiofor against disclosing or misusing any confidential information obtained during the retainer, cautioning that violations could trigger disciplinary proceedings before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and other legal actions.
