Bayelsa Police Arrest Eight NDU Students for Assault

– YENAGOA, Bayelsa State

Officers from the Bayelsa State Police Command arrested eight suspects, six of whom are students at Niger Delta University in Amassoma, for brutally assaulting a fellow student. The attack took place on July 14 at a hotel on Mike Okokpo Street in Yenagoa. The victim, Prince Hansen, a third-year student, suffered serious injuries during the incident.

According to police reports, the assault occurred after a dispute over an alleged debt of 70,000 naira. A group of eight young men attacked the victim inside the hotel. After receiving a call for help from a citizen, officers from the Violent Crime Response Unit quickly apprehended the suspects.

Those arrested are Desmond Linus, 20; Richman Serbokuro, 21; Plain Lion, 19; Richman Joel, 20; Solomon Damian, 23; Destiny Serbokuro, 24; Isaac Goodnews, 22; and Theresa Francis, 22. Six of them are confirmed students at Niger Delta University. Among the items recovered were suspected marijuana, Swinol, and amulets.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has pledged to continue its fight against cults and violent crime. Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Musa Mohammed emphasized the need for citizen cooperation through the timely exchange of information to improve security throughout the state. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted upon completion.

This incident highlights the growing concern about cult-related violence among students in Bayelsa. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and support efforts to restore peace and security to the region.
