– OYO, Nigeria
Armed terrorists holding dozens of schoolchildren and teachers hostage in southwestern Nigeria are demanding weapons, vehicles, a ransom of one billion naira, the release of the prisoners, and the imposition of Islamic law (Sharia).
Gunmen kidnapped some 39 students, some as young as two years old and seven teachers from three schools in the Oriire area of Oyo State on May 15.
“It is worrying that the Fulani terrorists are abusing the victims in captivity,” Isaac Ade told Gazette Africa.
State officials revealed the demands, which have sparked outrage. Local Muslim leaders strongly rejected the imposition of Sharia, stating that the criminals do not represent Islam.
Security forces continue rescue operations while schools remain closed, amid worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
