– BORNO, Nigeria
The Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram launched a dawn attack early Friday morning against a Nigerian army base in Borno State, killing eight soldiers and beheading the victims.
The attack targeted the position of the 162nd Battalion, located along the Mandara-Buratai road, around 4:00 a.m., in heavy rain.
The attackers seized control of parts of the base before the troops could return fire.
Military sources confirmed the deaths and beheadings, as well as several wounded.
This incident adds to recent attacks carried out by Boko Haram, Fulani factions, and members of ISWAP in the northeast of the country.
