Gunmen stormed into the community of Igbosi in the early morning hours of Friday, June 5, 2026. They opened fire around 1:30 a.m., causing residents to flee in terror into the bush and nearby communities.
The assailants targeted the home of Pastor Isaac Olaosebikan. The pastor managed to escape into the bush to save his life, but the attackers kidnapped his nine-year-old son, Olaosebikan Victor, and took him away. They also damaged the home of Mr. Joel Owalekan and destroyed two buildings during the attack.
The pastor and Mr. Owalekan reported the incident to the police around 2:30 a.m. The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the attack and immediately launched a search and rescue operation with personnel from Amotekun, scouring the forests and surrounding areas to locate the child.
Police Commissioner Felix Ohagwu ordered all tactical and intelligence units to focus on rescuing the nine-year-old girl and apprehending those responsible. The child remains in captivity while the operation continues.
Residents of the community have expressed deep concern about the rising insecurity in the area and are demanding stricter security measures to protect themselves from such targeted attacks.
