Kenya was severely disrupted on Sunday by a nationwide transport strike that paralyzed minibuses, buses, trucks, and ride-sharing services in protest against soaring fuel prices.
The strike, led by unions and transport operators, followed record increases in gasoline and diesel prices, linked to global oil supply tensions caused by the crisis in the Middle East.
Roads in Nairobi and other cities were blocked with fires and stones, while stranded commuters were forced to walk long distances. Schools and businesses were also severely affected, and clashes with police left at least four dead and dozens injured.
The Kenyan government defended the fuel price adjustments but promised a review as growing public anger exacerbates the country's cost-of-living crisis.
