Militants shot dead a senior commander of Cameroon's Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) in the Bakassi Peninsula, sources reported Friday, January 12, 2024.

The incident occurred in Abana a place next to Aqua Obio Effiat in Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria.

Sunrise Daily TV cited an eyewitness as saying other soldiers were also killed in the attack believed to have been carried out by Black Marine, a suspected pro-Biafra militant group in the former headquarters in the Bakassi Peninsula.

The militants donned BIR military clothing and invaded the military unit's base, according to a separate report received by REELS TIMES.

Cameroonian military authorities have not confirmed reports of the incident, which a pro-Biafra group, the Biafra Nations League (BnL), confirmed on its verified Facebook page on Friday.
