Heavy fighting broke out again on Wednesday morning in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, after a 72-hour cease-fire ended. Gunfire and artillery could be heard in Khartoum and its sister city, Omdurman, causing fear among civilians.
According to VOA, a resident of Khartoum, Ammar Hassan, reported hearing gunshots around the department of military engineering, which is controlled by the army. The Rapid Support Forces have tried to take over the building several times without success.
Hassan also said that fierce confrontations erupted in the south of Omdurman, specifically around the engineering department. The attack could be heard coming from Fetihab, Um Baddah El Mansura, Al Doha, and Abbasia.
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been fighting for over two months, causing destruction in the capital and violence in the western region of Darfur.
A report by the United Nations said more than 2.5 million civilians have fled their homes, and many has died in the fighting.
