DAMATURU, Yobe State
Suspected Islamist militants carried out a deadly attack on a Nigerian military training school in Yobe State, killing at least seventeen police trainees, security sources confirmed.
The attack targeted the training center where recruits were undergoing instruction.
Yobe State is regularly targeted by Islamist insurgent groups, including Boko Haram and its splinter faction ISWAP, which routinely target security installations and civilian sites in the northeast of the country.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but Nigerian security forces have launched operations to find the perpetrators, a security source told Gazette Africa.
