| Trump described the operation as targeting “ISIS Terrorist Scum” responsible for violence “at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries.” |
President Donald Trump announced late Thursday that he directed U.S. forces to launch “powerful and deadly” airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) militants in northwest Nigeria, citing their targeting and killing of Christians.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump described the operation as targeting “ISIS Terrorist Scum” responsible for violence “at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries.” He warned of further strikes if attacks continue, stating: “There would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.”
U.S. Africa Command confirmed the strikes occurred in Sokoto State, conducted in coordination with Nigerian authorities, resulting in multiple ISIS militants killed. The Nigerian government welcomed the cooperation in combating terrorism.
The action follows Trump's prior warnings about violence against Christians in Nigeria, amid ongoing insurgencies involving ISIS affiliates.
