Dr Matthew Kukah, the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, met the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in Sokoto prison on Thursday.
The meeting, confirmed by Kanu’s brother Emmanuel, included prayers and lengthy discussions.
Details were not disclosed, but it is seen as part of efforts to secure Kanu’s release.
Mr Kanu is serving a life sentence for advocating for an independence State of Biafra, a ruling widely criticized. IPOB stated legal efforts for his release is underway but warned of decisive action if they fail.
