One Dead After Jet Crashes on Texas Highway

–Laredo, Texas

An executive jet with six people on board crashed on Loop 20 Tuesday night, killing one person. The Cessna Citation Latitude, operated by NetJets, went down shortly after 10 p.m. while attempting an emergency landing due to mechanical problems and low fuel.

Several bystanders left their vehicles to assist emergency responders at the crash site. Witnesses used tools to break the cockpit window and force open the door of the burning plane, rescuing survivors from the wreckage while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The other five occupants were taken to local hospitals for treatment, while several first responders received medical attention for smoke inhalation.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched a full investigation into the crash. The highway remained closed for several hours while crews cleared debris and examined the wreckage. Authorities praised the quick action of bystanders who provided assistance in the critical moments following the crash.
