Cameroon: Police Detain Journalists Covering US Deportees

YAOUNDÉ — Cameroonian police have arrested five English-speaking media professionals and a lawyer in Yaoundé while they were reportedly investigating African nationals recently deported from the United States.

Detained are lawyer Awah Joseph Fru, AP correspondent Nalova Akwa, former BBC contributor Randy Joe Sa'ah, Angel Ngwe, and Anold Ndal. 

According to sources, authorities seized their equipment and accused them of unauthorized filming.

One journalist was allegedly beaten in custody. There has been no official comment from the government.
