In October 2018, 13-year-old Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje from Benue State, Nigeria, died from vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) complications after years of repeated rape by her uncle, Andrew Ogbuja (a lecturer acquitted in court), and his son Victor (who remains at large).
Her aunt, Felicia Ogbuja, received a five-month sentence for negligence.
As of late October 2025, reports of Victor Ogbuja's sighting in Lagos sparked nationwide outrage, reigniting the #JusticeForOchanya campaign.
A Change.org petition and protesters in Nigeria demands reopening the case and arrests, while a memorial in Abuja amplified calls for systemic reforms in child protection.
