KATSINA STATE, NIGERIA

An overnight attack on the Bege Baptist Church in Yaribori community, Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, left the church priest and a worshipper dead.

A female worshipper was also abducted by the jihadists who fled after the attack on Monday night.

Locals identified the dead victims as Reverend Emmanuel Na’allah, the pastor of the church, and Mallam Samaila Gidan Taro, a member of the congregation.

“They invaded the church, opened fire and fled with the female victim,” said a survivor Caleb Usman.

He told Tori Pulse that “the whereabouts of the woman they kidnapped is still unknown”.

Local authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the attack, which adds to the growing insecurity in Nigeria, where armed Fulani groups frequently target communities and religious institutions.
