ABUJA — The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) has raised an alarm over potential catastrophic flooding in Nigeria’s coastal and low-lying states due to water releases from dams in neighboring countries.
The group urged immediate action from federal and state authorities, including early warning systems, public sensitization, and evacuation plans for at-risk communities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday July 8, 2025, FENRAD also called for regional cooperation on dam management and long-term solutions such as completing the Dasin Hausa Dam and improving drainage infrastructure.
“Unless adequate preparedness measures are urgently put in place, this year’s flooding could be even more catastrophic,” said Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor.
