A young woman from Benue State was found dead by the roadside in Abuja the federal capital territory of Nigeria, after reportedly falling victim to “one chance” criminals.
Her body was discovered on Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Way, in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory.
A source close to the victim identified her as a native of Ekaida, in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. According to the source, she was allegedly abducted by criminals while returning from work.
Adanu Andrew, who confirmed her identity, said the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of one million naira, and the family was in the process of settling the payment before learning of her death on social media.
He described the victim as a hardworking and disciplined young woman, condemning the brutal act.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but the incident has rekindled concerns about rising crime in the city.
