Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has disclosed that efforts are underway for the release of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The Governor who disclosed this during a chat with newsmen in Umuahia, said he is not ready to make public some of the approaches being deployed for the release of the IPOB leader who has been in Nigerian government's detention since 2021.
At the media chat, Otti stated that the new administration which isn't the one incarcerated Mr. Kanu, doesn't want to inherit the “wrong thing of the previous administration.”
According to Governor Otti, the approach of his administration and the new government is different. “We do not want the media noise. We are working very hard to ensure his release,” he said, expressing optimism that the effort will yield expected result.
Mr. Kanu arrested over allegations bothering on treason and terrorism, calls for a referendum on an independent state known as Biafra.
