The British warship has arrived in Nigeria, Tori Pulse confirmed on Monday.

The UK Royal Navy warship, HMS Trent, arrived in Nigeria's Lagos State on Sunday, as the military coup and other crises deepen in Africa.

Commander of HMS Trent, Tim Langford, said the military vessel arrived to provide capability training and maritime support to Nigeria in the fight against maritime piracy and illegal trafficking.

According to him, the British Navy will work with the Nigerian Navy to identify and help Nigeria combat insecurity on the high seas. They will also identify possible solutions in the maritime environment, Langford said.

Nigeria and United Kingdom “face many shared threats and we are keen to work with Nigeria to defeat these and to help improve maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea,” Jonny Baxter, UK deputy high commissioner said in Lagos.
