Bomb explosion kills 7 Cameroonian soldiers in Bakassi

Seven members of the Rapid d'Intervention Battalions (BIR) died on Friday September 23, 2023 in an explosion in Abana, the former headquarters of the Bakassi peninsula.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m, said an eyewitness who confirmed there were no civilian casualties.

Sources said "Black Marine", a Biafran separatist militant group, are responsible for the attack which has caused panic in the region. The militants are believed to be an armed wing of the Biafra Nations League (BnL), a separatist group based in former eastern region of Nigeria

Gunboats were damaged in the bombing, which also injured some soldiers.

The BnL had asked the Nigerian and Cameroonian authorities to leave the Bakassi peninsula ceded by the Nigerian government to Cameroon.

Cameroon military have made no comment about the latest incident.
