Soldiers, on Friday— May 26, 2023 attacked mourners in Bambui, a locality in the restive part of Cameroon, local authorities confirmed, saying four boys were seriously injured.
The mourners were attacked by soldiers of the Cameroon military as they accompanied a corpse from Bamenda.
According to eyewitness, the soldiers who were engaged in a firefight by armed separatists in Boyo, turned on the civilians whom they accuse of being brothers and supporters of the separatist fighters.
“They also set two motorbikes on fire, and said the act was a revenge for the difficulties they went through in the Kom land in the hands of separatist fighters,” a survivor said.
The victims met, were inflicted knife wound with some of their hair sliced out from their skin.
Local administrators in the area confirmed that the attack is one of many carried out by government forces on civilians whenever they suffer loss from any forefight with separatist fighters in the anglophone region where the separatists demands an independent state of 'Ambazonia'.
Military authorities declined to comment of the latest attack on civilians.
