UEFA has appointed Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa, to be played on August 12 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg.
Artan had been selected by FIFA as a referee for the 2026 World Cup, but was denied entry to the United States at Miami International Airport despite possessing a valid visa and diplomatic passport.
Following discussions with the Confederation of African Football, UEFA selected Artan to referee the match at the Red Bull Arena. This appointment makes him the first African referee to officiate a UEFA Super Cup.
